HypnoBirthing FAQS

Everything you need to know to get started with HypnoBirthing…

Click through the following HypnoBirthing FAQs to learn more about how HypnoBirthing can prepare you to achieve a calm, peaceful and positive birth experience and what to expect.

How long does it take to learn HypnoBirthing?

HypnoBirthing – The Mongan Method is taught over a 5 week period, once per week for 2.5 hours. However, throughout the course, parents are provided with exercise and activities that can be completed on their own time. Some people find it easier to reach a deep level of relaxation than others, but regular relaxation practices are essential to conditioning the mind and body for a calm birth.

When should I start practicing HypnoBirthing?
You can begin HypnoBirthing at any time (even preconception), but most parents begin the program between 20-35 weeks. The earlier you begin, the more time you will have to practice for your birthing day.
Does HypnoBirthing really work?
HypnoBirthing has been chosen by hundreds of thousands of expecting parents throughout the world to prepare for the birth of their child. Educators report consistently receiving positive birth stories from their students, thank you emails for helping parents prepare for their birthing day, and testimonials about how grateful they were to be prepped with the tools and techniques to use throughout pregnancy, birth, and beyond.

Yes, birth is unpredictable and every birth takes its own unique path. While not every person who takes a HypnoBirthing class experiences a physiological birth, parents who have taken this course have reported fewer interventions and greater satisfaction.

We must dispel the myth that a HypnoBirth must be a pain-free, unmedicated birth. As educators, we never promise a pain-free birth, but we will promise to provide you with support, knowledge, and tools for achieving your birth goals, which will be unique to each parent. This program is designed to give parents the best chance at having a physiological, natural birth, while also preparing parents to navigate whatever path their birthing day takes.

So, as many hypnomoms can attest, yes, it works!

Can I do HypnoBirthing on my own?

The HypnoBirthing curriculum is designed with the birthing person and their partner/support person in mind because having someone you trust by your side for support and advocacy can greatly contribute to creating a sense of safety and relaxation. While it is by no means required, we do encourage all students to have someone to join them for the classes and support them during labor and birth. This does not have to be a romantic partner. It can be a parent, doula, or even a friend.

My partner works away. Is it necessary for him/her to attend?
While it is ideal for the partner to attend all HypnoBirthing classes, we understand that life happens and everyone has unique circumstances to work around.

Do not hesitate to contact your local HypnoBirthing Educator about possible accommodations, or consider private one-on-one sessions in your home. You may also consider a virtual course where your partner can join in from anywhere in the world!

Can I just do the course in 1 weekend?

It is not recommended to complete the course in less than the prescribed 5-week timeline.

Parents who are very close to their due time can receive an exception for an expedited course (typically private) to help you prepare for the best possible outcome.

The course is designed to be taught over 5 weekly sessions to give parents time to practice, reflect, connect with their baby, and consider their birth wishes. Our goals are to prevent information overload, give you time to process and retain the information and experiences. Over the 5 weeks, we see parents release their fears and gain lots of knowledge, becoming more confident and relaxed as their birthing time approached. We want the best for you, your birth, and your baby, and we know that sticking to the 5 weekly sessions will provide the best results.

Is HypnoBirthing covered by my health insurance?
Maybe! Some educators accept some insurance plans.

Also, many educators can accept payments from an HSA.

It never hurts to ask!

How much are HypnoBirthing Classes?
Class fees are set by the individual HypnoBirthing educator and can vary from location to location. The course fees include all 5 sessions and the course materials.

Contact your local educator for more information on the cost of their course.

How do I know that my HypnoBirthing Educator is Certified and holds the proper qualifications?

All certified educators are provided with our Gold Seal of Approval to display on their website and marketing materials, as well as a signed certificate. They will also be listed in our online directory of educators.

Should I still attend the hospital antenatal classes?

Some parents choose to take the prenatal courses offered at their birthing place, in addition to HypnoBirthing. This is your choice.

HypnoBirthing – The Mongan Method is a complete and comprehensive childbirth education designed to provide parents with the best possible education and preparation for their birthing day. While hospital classes can vary (and HypnoBirthing classes are offered in some hospitals), most parents report that they focus more on the medical aspects and what to expect from active management of labor and birth.

We do, however, encourage you to take a tour of the hospital or birth center you plan on birthing at.
